Referral and Medicare Information

You do not require a referral from your child's doctor if you are willing to pay the full out-of-pocket fee, or if you have an NDIS plan (self managed or plan managed).

If you do obtain a Mental Health Care Plan for your child or young person, then they are eligible for Medicare rebates for a maximum of 10 therapy sessions each calendar year. A maximum of 2 of these sessions can be parent only sessions without the child present if desired.

A review by the referring doctor is required after the first 6 sessions to obtain the additional 4 sessions.

You will need to pay the total amount of the session fee before your Medicare claim can be submitted.

Please note that Mental Health Care Plan Medicare rebates only apply to therapy sessions, not assessments.

However, if you obtain a referral from your child's paediatrician for a Complex Neurodevelopmental Assessment (prior to commencing psychology assessment) this does enable you to receive rebates for some of the assessment costs.

Private Health Fund

If you have private health insurance please contact your provider and ask about whether you are covered for sessions with a psychologist. If you are eligible, you need to seek reimbursement from your health fund directly by submitting your receipt. Dr Katrina McKie does not process private health fund claims. You are unable to use Medicare and private health insurance for the same session.

NDIS Plans

If your plan is self-managed, you will pay the invoice yourself and then process your claim through the NDIS portal.

If your plan is plan-managed, the invoice will be sent to your plan manager. It is your responsibility to ensure that the plan manager information is provided to Dr Katrina McKie at the time of registration/completing intake paperwork.

Cancellations/Non-Attendance

If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment this needs to be communicated to Dr Katrina McKie with at least 2 business days' notice.

If cancellation is made less than 2 business days' prior, or you do not attend for your appointment, there will be a cancellation fee of 50% of the session cost. Rebates through Medicare or private health are not available for unattended or cancelled appointments.
